Our Jingles

Identity and image are important. This identity distinguishes one from another, especially in a field where offerings from different brands may seem to look or sound the same.  This is the reason why we must make it clear to listeners that they are connected with J1.

J1 does this through jingles and other on-air identity. Like with the artist's signature at the bottom of a painting, the jingle makes sure listeners know that they are listening to a J1 channel.  J1 has built this identity over nearly the past 25 years.

We thank you for listening to J1.  On this page, you will be able to listen to the many different jingles and other identity the station has had over the past 25 years.  This includes the new Image Song series that came out in 2024 that truly cements the bond between J1 and it's listeners, in Tokyo, throughout Japan, in Southern California and around the world.

Please enjoy the jingles and thank you for listening to J1 Radio!  J1 loves Japan. J1 loves you!

Image Songs

With the evolution of artificial intelligence, many types of content creation which were costly (such as the other jingles on this page).  AI allows use to easily spin up new tunes to add to the J1 overall imaging. AI allows J1 to produce imaging that would have been prohibitive under the traditional jingle production model.

J1 is more than just a music box on the internet, we care about our listeners, no matter where in the world they are.  The Image Songs not only reach our core listeners in Tokyo and Los Angeles, but they also reach out to our listeners in the other regions of Japan and around the world to remind them that they are also a part of the global J1 family.

Jingles and Imaging

Listen to demonstrations of many of the jingles that have aired on J1 Radio since 2000.

TM Studios - Ignite KROC - We Love This Music, We Love Japan

In 2022, J1 went to TM Studios to get a jingle package to modernize the sound and to highlight a new slogan, "We love this music, We love Japan".  Like with our Channel 4 Hot AC package, some of the cuts were sung with alternate lyrics for our seasonal formats (spring and summer) as well as for the Top 40 Countdown.

Using the piece parts that we received from TM Studios, we made a separate thematic "sub-package" of one of the cuts for Japan's Top 40 Countdown.

JAM - Back Seat Music - Cut 7 - J1 GOLD - Showa Memories

In the late 1970s, in the early days of JAM Creative Productions, they produced a package called "Back Seat Music", originally done for legendary oldies station WPEN in Philadelphia.

For many years, J1 GOLD did not have any jingles. This was a huge departure from our other channels. We did not want to interfere with the beautiful Showa sound. In 2021, J1 brought the magic of the 1970s back with one of their best cuts that mixes well with the Showa period music played on the channel.  Unlike the other channels, jingles and identity on J1 GOLD is minimal.

JAM - Z Plus - Cut 2 - J1 XTRA - The Heisei Era

In the same 2021 session that gave us our beautiful J1 GOLD jingle, we decided to update the top of the hour jingle on J1 XTRA to reflect the shift in programming on the J1 channels to be based on each period.  J1 XTRA became the Heisei period channel.  The slogan "Heisei NOW!" would come later on.

Radio Jingles 24 - AC Cut 5 - J1 20th Anniversary

In 2020 and early 2021, with the pandemic in full effect, many of the major jingle studios stopped doing productions or reduced their output due to maintaining safety.  Despite that, J1 still needed to celebrate a 20 year anniversary.  This cut from Radio Jingles 24 was not our first choice, but given the world situation at the time, it will work just fine.  Here's the cut and its variants, socially distanced and fully quarantined.

JAM - Breakthrough - Cut 1 - J1 HITS - J1 Loves Japan

From 2018, this cut became the top of the hour on the main J1 channel.  This cut was used to further connect J1 with the Tokyo area and to state that J1 does play more music, compared to FM radio.

A-chan Imaging - Anime Songs

A-chan was a short-lived J1 channel around 2018.  This channel was an attempt to reboot our former channel Anime Hardcore Radio.  These were the simple cuts used with archaic text to speech and music tracks from the Thompson Creative Promo Pack 2.  A-chan would eventually change format to become J1 HD and broadcast in Southern California on terrestrial radio.

Bespoke Music - Mister Big - J1 XTRA

Before J1 XTRA was a Heisei period station, it was a more broader Japanese older music channel and served more as  "overflow" of the older music that originally aired on the main channel.  This cut was done in 2016 and served as the top of the hour ID for J1 XTRA.

TM Studios - Big Time Radio - Cut 1 - Image Songs

Nine years before J1 launched over 100 image songs across the four J1 channels, we had a short image song cut done. These cuts were our first attempt to truly recognize our Tokyo area listeners through identity.  One version acknowledges J1's reach in Tokyo and the other recognizes the kawaii (cute) culture that made Heisei-period Tokyo a great place to be!

TM Studios - Channel 4 Hot AC - Japan's Hottest Hits

From 2015, this is J1's first full jingle package.  We went with this package because of its versatility and its compatibility on J1 HITS and XTRA.  Some of the cuts had alternate lyrics sung for seasons and features such as Sakura Springtime, Natsu no Tanoshimi (summer fun), Japan's Top 40 Countdown, Michiasa and the rarely heard cuts for "Nichiyoubi" (Sunday), which was going to be used for an oldies segment on Sundays.

JAM - KZZP Custom - Cut 4 - J1はあなたが好き and Yamanote Line

While we were getting a full package from TM, we also sent a challenge to JAM.  We challenged them to make a cut with a line sung in Japanese.  Normally, jingles produced by American jingle companies for FM radio stations in Japan are sung in English.  We wanted to do something different.  We were able to achieve getting the JAM Dallas vocal group to make us this:

If you listen to J1 HITS often, you may have noticed that this cut still lives on the air to today as the Yamanote Line cut.  We made multiple versions of this cut with text-to-speech vocals for each Yamanote Line train station at the time (this recording was done before Takanawa Gateway).

JAM Turbo Z - Cut 10 - Japan's Hottest Hits J1

In the early days of J1's parent, REC Networks, JAM Turbo Z Cut 10, originally produced for WHTZ, Z-100 in New York was our workhorse ID and became very well identified with many productions and stations that carried the REC name over multiple decades.

To keep this signature image into the then-modern J1, we went back to JAM for new resings of this cut for J1 Radio.  This was done in 2013.
